Outline
- The outline and the map are the same thing: edit either one and the other follows as you type.
- Each
- line is a node. Indent it with Tab to make it a child of the line above; Shift Tab moves it back out.
- The first item is the central topic. Further items at the left edge are loose nodes.
- A line without
- continues the node above it on a new line.
Maps
- Keep a separate map for each topic. M or the first toolbar button lists them; click one to switch to it.
- A map is named after its central topic. New map starts a blank one with the central topic ready to type its name.
- Each map keeps its own place and zoom. Undo goes back within the map on screen, as far as when it was opened.
Mouse and touch
- Double-click a node to edit it; double-click empty space for a new loose node.
- A dot in a node’s corner means it has a description: click the node to read it in a card under the node. Click the text to change it; D or the description button writes one for a node that has none.
- Drag a node to move it with its branch. Hold Alt to move just that node.
- Drop a node onto another to make it that node’s child.
- Drag empty space to pan. Scrolling pans too; Ctrl/⌘ + scroll or pinch to zoom.
- Drop a
.json file on the page to import it as a new map.
Everything saves automatically in this browser. Export saves the map on screen as JSON, for a backup or to move it to another device.
